Accelerated healing is the ability of a person to recover from injuries and illness at a rate far in excess than that of normal maximum human potential. It is sometimes referred to as a Healing factor. In speculative fiction, accelerated healing is possessed by people who are born with certain genetic anomalies (ie mutants), suffer from a biological mutation as a result of exposure to a foreign source (ie Gamma radiation), or are infused with artificial enhancements such as nanotechnology that enables them to heal from injuries.
On the NBC television series Heroes, the character of Claire Bennet possessed this ability. She had her friend Zach videotape her pitching herself from a high tower, dislocating her shoulder as she landed. She easily popped it back into place. Shortly thereafter, Claire was tackled by a high school football player by accident. The impact was so jarring that it actually twisted her head around, but she was able to quickly snap it back into place. Later, she rushed blindly into a raging fire on a derailed train car to save an unconscious worker. She healed from any burn injuries instantaneously. [1]
