They can range from criminals to jealous lovers to snobby neighbors, supervillains and even evil closet monkeys. Be wary of the spooky antagonist. For they are legion. The opposite of an antagonist is a protagonist, which is a character that viewers are designed to root for, and traditionally uphold some manner of virtuous qualities.
