Collinsport jail
Continent: North America
Country: United States of America
State: Maine
City: Collinsport
Notable apperances: Dark Shadows

The Collinsport jail was a minor location featured in the daytime Gothic soap opera Dark Shadows, which aired on ABC from 1966 to 1971. The building made sporadic appearances throughout the series. Presumably, the jail is located fairly close to the Collinsport court house.

History[]

The Collinsport jail made multiple appearances during the "1795 Flashback" storyline and was where Victoria Winters was imprisoned while she awaited trial on charges of witchcraft. Unfortunately, her lover Peter Bradford was likewise implicated in the murder of a man named Noah Gifford and spent some time in jail before being executed.

In 1840, Quentin Collins was arrested on charges of witchcraft as well and spent a considerable amount of time in jail while he awaited trial. His advocates Barnabas Collins and Desmond Collins consulted with Quentin during the trial. Quentin's lover, Daphne Harridge visited him quite often as well.

In 1969, a Collinsport regular, Joe Haskell, was arrested after behaving like a lunatic and was briefly remanded to the jail house by Sheriff George Patterson. Doctor Julia Hoffman soon had Joe relocated to Windcliff Sanitarium. [1]

Notes & Trivia[]

  • The set piece used during the "1795 Flashback" episodes is the same one used in the modern setting, implying that they are in fact the same building.
