Mrs. Reyerson was the elderly mother of Ted Reyerson. She lived in an assisted living facility and, to hear Ted tell it, was a domineering and often cruel force in his life. Ted confessed to a preacher named Jesse Custer that his mother would constantly telephone him to harass him. Jesse encouraged Ted to stand up for himself and confront his mother. Unwittingly using his newly-acquired powers of post-hypnotic suggestion, he told Ted to "Be brave. Tell the truth..." and "open your heart". Ted did as instructed and visited his mother in the nursing home. After confessing his displeasure with her, he carved out his own heart with a cake knife. (Preacher: Pilot)
