The walker shot by Merle is a fictional zombie character and a minor character featured on the AMC survival horror series The Walking Dead. Played by actor Chance Bartels, he first appeared in the second episode of season one, "Guts".
This unidentified individual was a male resident of Atlanta, Georgia, who died and became reanimated as an undead flesh-eater after a zombie plague swept across the city. He was part of a loose group of walkers that had wandered through a cross alley behind a department store office building.
Upon the roof of the building, survivor Merle Dixon was using a high-powered rifle with a scope to pick off random walkers. This particular individual was the third such creature that Merle shot in the head, before other members of his group told him to stop shooting as the noise was attracting even more walkers to their location.
