The Gotham City Police Department is a fictional law-enforcement agency featured in the Batman multimedia franchise. As the primary police department of the equally fictional Gotham City, the GCPD maintains a presence in nearly every iteration of the Batman reality. In most cases, the police department is spotlighted by the characters of James Gordon, who is classically portrayed as the police commissioner of the department as well as notable officers and detectives such as Chief O'Hara from the original 1966 live-action Batman series, Harvey Bullock and Renee Montoya from the 1992 program, Batman: The Animated Series, as well as others.

The Gotham City Police Department serves as the central backbone behind the FOX Network series Gotham and is seen in every episode of the show. On Gotham, the GCPD is presented as a corrupt organization, whose loyalties are not to the virtues of law and order, but to the power of Gotham crime boss Carmine Falcone. As the series is set at a time prior to Bruce Wayne taking on the mantle of Batman, the character of James Gordon is presented as a rookie police detective, holding the rank of Lieutenant. His partner in the series is Harvey Bullock who, while not as corrupt as many others in the city, does not share Jim Gordon's sense of idealistic integrity.
