Holly Marshall is a fictional adventurer and one of the main characters on the 1974-1976 children's series Land of the Lost. Played by actress Kathy Coleman, the character appeared in all forty-three episodes of the show.
Holly Marshall was the youngest of the Marshall children and the only female. She was the daughter of Park Ranger Rick Marshall, the sister of Will Marshall and the niece of Jack Marshall. Her father, brother and she set out on a river rafting trip conducting what they felt was a "routine expedition". They found themselves driven by a strong current that took them over an unexpected waterfall. The descent transcended the group through time and space and they awakened in a veritable "Lost Land", populated by hungry dinosaurs, reptilian hunters known as Sleestaks, and strange neanderthals called Pakuni. The Marshall family took shelter in a cave upon a high bluff and had to use their wits and ingenuity in order to survive in this strange new world.
Holly was cheery and optimistic - sometimes to a fault. Given her youth, she possessed a certain naiveté about the inherent dangers in the Lost Land, but this also proved to be an asset, as she could always keep her father and Will in good spirits. Holly was generally charged with gathering food, preparing meals and maintaining the cleanliness of High Bluff.
Notes & Trivia Edit
- The character of Holly Marshall was created by Sid and Marty Krofft as well as Allan Foshko, director Dennis Steinmetz and writer and story editor David Gerrold.
- In the 2009 feature film remake of Land of the Lost, the character of Holly Marshall was re-imagined as Holly Cantrell, who was much older than Holly from the original TV series, and was also a scientist of British descent. Rather than naming a baby Brontosaur, Dopey, she instead bequeathed the name of Grumpy to an angry Tyrannosaurus.
- Cha-Ka always had difficulty pronouncing Holly's name and would say it, "Hah-ree".
- With the exception of a one-time appearance on an episode of Adam-12, playing the role of Holly Marshall is actress Kathy Coleman's only known work in television.
