Horror is a subgenre of the drama program and is designed primarily to frighten or even disgust it's viewers. Many horror programs contain elements of the supernatural and may also be combined with the dark fantasy genre. The 1980s boasted two horror anthology series called Tales from the Crypt, which was based on a 1950s comic book series by EC Comics and Tales from the Darkside, which was created by Night of the Living Dead director George A. Romero. Another anthology series that gained some notoriety was Masters of Horror, which aired on Showtime during the mid-2000s and featured episodes directed by notable movie directors who specialize in the genre. Other horror-themed TV programs that contain elements of the supernatural or paranormal include Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it's spin-off series Angel, the short-lived Kindred: The Embraced and the AMC series The Walking Dead.
