Biography[]

Jessica Cambell Jones, most commonly referred to as just Jessica Jones, was an enhanced human, gifted with superhuman strength. However, her abilities provided no defense against the mind-controlling powers of a man known as Kilgrave. Kilgrave selected Jessica as his personal puppet, to torment and manipulate as he chose. Jessica ultimately broke free of Kilgrave's control and fled. When he pursued her, he was struck by a vehicle, which severed his mental connection to her. Kilgrave disappeared, but Jones was traumatized by the experience. Despite the copious amounts of therapy, Jessica was a broken soul after this experience. Even her best friend, Trish Walker, could not seem to improve her demeanor. [1]

Jessica Jones worked as an investigator for lawyer Jeri Hogarth, but after the experience with Kilgrave, preferred to only take select cases. She opened up her own private office, Alias Investigations, which she ran out of her apartment. In most situations, her caseload involved photographing unfaithful husbands and wives and reporting the news back to their respective spouses. Not every cuckolded husband took the news well, and Jessica was sometimes pressed to forcibly eject them from her home. [1]

A couple named Bob and Barbara Shlottman hired Jessica to find their missing daughter, Hope, who was a New York University track star. After following up on some leads, Jessica found Shlottman, only to discover that she was Kilgrave's newest plaything. She attempted to rescue her, but Shlottman was mentally bound to remain where she was, driving Jones to remove her from the premises by force. When she reunited the Shlottman's with their daughter, Hope produced a gun and shot her parents to death. This was just another aspect of Kilgrave's control over her. [1]
