Leonard "Bones" McCoy is a fictional doctor and one of the central characters featured in the Star Trek film and television franchise. Played by American actor DeForest Kelley, he was introduced in the first broadcast episode of the original Star Trek series entitled "The Man Trap" and appeared in 76 episodes of the series in total. McCoy also appeared in all 22 episodes of the Star Trek animated series from 1973-1974 as well as the first six Star Trek feature films. He also made a guest appearance on the pilot episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation entitled "Encounter at Farpoint". In addition to the movies and TV programs, Leonard McCoy also appeared in numerous novels, comic books and video game spin-offs. In the 2009 Star Trek reboot film, the role of Doctor McCoy was played by Australian actor Karl Urban.
