Penny Dreadful is a joint American/British television series set in the Victorian era and deals with elements of supernatural lore including vampires, ghosts and reanimates. It was produced by Desert Wolf Productions and Neal Street Productions and began airing on Showtime in May, 2014. The series stars Reeve Carney as Dorian Gray, Timothy Dalton as Sir Malcolm Murray, Eva Green as Vanessa Ives, Rory Kinnear as the Frankenstein Monster, Billie Piper as Brona Croft, Danny Sapani as Sembene, Harry Treadaway as Doctor Victor Frankenstein and Josh Hartnett as Ethan Chandler. The premise of the show focuses on a group of special individuals living in London, England in 1891. Sir Malcolm Murray, working alongside his spiritualist advisor Vanessa Ives, hires American sharpshooter Ethan Chandler and experimental scientist Victor Frankenstein to help him rescue his daughter Mina from the forces of darkness.
