The Rising Star is a fictional spacecraft featured in the 1978-1979 television series Battlestar Galactica. It first appeared in "Saga of a Star World (Part 1)" and made random appearances throughout the show. The ship was also featured in the 2003 Battlestar Galactica remake series, though this time it was a medical vessel.
The Rising Star was the name of a transport luxury liner, which was part of the surviving Colonial Fleet that escaped from the Cylon attack upon the Twelve Colonies. One of the more notable individuals who resided aboard this ship was Sire Uri, who was once a respected member of the council, but became embittered and selfish after the loss of his wife during the attack.
Sire Uri hoarded great supplies of food, which he kept exclusively for himself and his guests aboard the Rising Star. When reports of food and water shortages began to circulate throughout the fleet, Captain Apollo demanded that Sire Uri relinquish his reserves.
One of the more popular entertainment venues held aboard the Rising Star is the Triad tournament. Many of the fleet's Colonial Warriors were Triad players. During one particular game, Lieutenant Starbuck came to blows with a rival named Ortega, who later turned up dead. All evidence pointed to Starbuck, but he was exonerated when the true murderer was revealed to be one of Baltar's lackeys, Karibdis.
