"Bizarro... the Thing of Steel" is the sixth episode of season two of the superhero fantasy series Superboy and the thirty-second episode of the series overall. It was directed by Ken Bowser with a script written by Mark Jones. It first aired in syndication on Saturday, November 11th, 1989. In this episode, Professor Peterson creates an experimental duplication ray. Superboy accidentally steps in front of it, generating a bizarre artificial duplicate of himself.
Superboy is based on the character featured in comic book titles published by DC Comics. The character was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. The character of Lana Lang was created by writer Bill Finger and artist John Sikela.
Bizarro is the name attributed to a fictional super-villain featured in comic books published by DC Comics. He is classically presented as an imperfect artificial representation of Superman, but there have been other characters who have had Bizarro counterparts as well. The very first Bizarro was actually an imperfect duplicate of Superboy, who first appeared Superboy #68 in June, 1958 in a story titled, "The Boy of Steel vs. the Thing of Steel!"
