Biography[]

Tom Nellis was the First Officer of a Federation freighter vessel called the USS Antares NCC-501 under the command of Captain Ramart. In the year 2266 on Stardate 1533.6, the Antares was passing through the Thasus system when they discovered a seventeen-year-old boy named Charlie Evans, who had been marooned on the planet Thasus for fourteen years. Along with Captain Ramart, Tom Nellis brought the boy on board and learned that his closest living relatives were on Colony Alpha V. They made contact with the Federation starship USS Enterprise, which was en route to that sector and asked if they could shuttle Charlie to the colony. Before meeting up with the Enterprise, Nellis and Ramart discovered that Charlie had developed fantastic superhuman abilities. This made the men extremely nervous, which Charlie took as a sign of aggression.

When the Antares crew beamed aboard the Enterprise, Tom Nellis and Captain Ramart were only to happy to get Charlie Evans out of their lives. Before they could warn the ship's captain, James T. Kirk however, Charlie used his mental abilities to manipulate their actions, forcing them to effusively sing Charlie's praises to Kirk.

A short time later, once the two men had their mental faculties restored, Captain Ramart attempted to signal the Enterprise to warn them about Charlie. Evans used his powers to remove a warped baffle plate from the Antares's energy pile, causing a warp core breach which destroyed the ship with all hands lost. Charlie defended his actions to Captain Kirk, citing that "...they weren't nice to me". [1]
